A WEXHAM Park Hospital nurse burst into tears this morning while reliving the hours before one of her patients died.
Ankara Goswami, who was the senior nurse in charge on the night Philmore Mills died, described how 'his eyes were bulging' as he walked towards her and screamed.
She also revealed that she asked police officers for his handcuffs to be removed as he was sweating and struggling to breathe.
The inquest into Mr Mills' death heard this morning that at around 2.15am on December 27, Mr Mills left his bed and started walking towards Ms Goswami at the nurses station.
She said: "I asked him something like 'are you okay?' and he replied something I can't remember but in a tone different to the way I had heard him before.
"It was like something out of a horror movie.
"I didn't expect that from him, it was something different."
Mr Mills was suffering from pneumonia and had a malignant tumour on his right lung. He was wearing an oxygen mask while in the hospital and it has been suggested that he could have been suffering from hypoxia, a deficiency in the amount of oxygen reaching the tissues, which can cause confusion.
Ms Goswami was frightened by Mr Mills' aggressive behaviour and ran down the corridor as she felt he was chasing her.
She called for security and they arrived but felt they could not deal with the incident and asked for the police to be called.
Two officers from Thames Valley Police assessed the situation and asked for a blanket and masks to restrain Mr Mills and he was then wrapped in the blanket, lured to the floor and handcuffed.
Ms Goswami added: "He was sweating, I could see he was struggling to breathe so I questioned if they could put him back to bed.
"My main concern was to give him oxygen, I asked the police officers to release his hands and they did."
After Mr Mills was put back on the bed, he continued to struggle to breathe so the hospital crash team was called to perform CPR.
The crash team carried out CPR on Mr Mills for about 35 minutes until 3.50am when he was pronounced dead by hospital staff.
The inquest continues.
