A COMMUNITY centre is set to be bulldozed to make way for a school expansion and new houses.

The Haymill Centre will be demolished as part of the Haybrook College expansion plans to provide two new buildings with a new sports hall at land off Burnham Lane, if plans are given the go ahead.

The Slough Borough Council planning application is set to be approved at a planning meeting on Thursday (4).

The planning report read: "The new buildings will allow the college to meet increasing demand and vacate the deteriorating Haymill Centre and temporary buildings.

"The council intend to demolish those buildings and redevelop the site for residential development in the future, but the current planning application does not include that site."

Haybrook College educates young people from 11-16 years old with challenging and complex social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

The development has received five letters of objection from neighbouring properties, with fears of loss of privacy and noise disturbance.

The report also states the development breaks the council's local plan development policy, which restricts developments that involve the loss of community facilities unless they are replaced, but the council say community facility users can use other local facilities.

The policy also aims to protect school playing fields and while 40% of the playing fields will be lost in the expansion, the report states the enhanced sport facilities meet exception criteria.

The application is set to be approved with resolution of outstanding matters including tree planting, sports hall appearance and access.

The meeting will be held at The Centre, in Farnham Road, Slough, at 6.30pm.
