IVY HEWITT (HER-STORY) Iverene born 5 January 1931 to Adaleine Cameron and Rudolph Walker. Attended Whitley Hall Methodist Church. Worked at battle Hospital in 1957 in nursing. Married in 1961 to Henry Hewitt and is survived by Henry and their 3 children Madlin, Alison and David Hewitt: Ivy returned to work as a Health Visitor, Milman Road Health Authority to retirement. A message from Ivy Hewitt… "I have been involved in a number of voluntary organisations in Reading over many years and I hope that my efforts have helped in some small way to bringing about some useful changes in our community." Ivy's commitment to serving the community is evidenced in her work with RCRE Reading Council for Racial Equality, Age Concern Reading Berkshire, Central Youth & Community Provision, Apollo Youth Club, The West Indian Women's Circle. Founded the WIWC with 4 of her close nursing friends, and went on to build and manage a successful Residential Home for West Indian elderly people in Reading. Collaboration and partnerships with Reading Borough Council, local community organisations and the Mayor have seen Ivy represent the community of Reading to the wider sectors. Royal Berkshire Council Elderly Services, and, of course, collaborations with Reading Voluntary Action Services. Ivy was a gifted, kind, generous and loving individual who touched the hearts of all who met her. She is held forever in honor with fondest memories.
