STEVE Bateman is backing talented Slough Town youngster Mo Sharif to make his mark at Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers, where he is currently on trail.
The Rebels supremo insists that the 17-year-old, who was phenomenal for the youth team before establishing himself as a first team player last season, has the ability to go pro.
"I think he can make it, I've made no secret that I think he will be a huge talent," stated Bateman who is desperate for Sharif to succeed and fulfil any young footballer's dream of playing professionally although Slough will not gain financially from it.
"I've had some dialogue with various people about him and QPR have taken him on trial.
"The club won't benefit from it financially, he's not under contract. Some people have asked me 'why not?' but the rules won't allow a 16 or 17-year-old in full time education to be under contract.
"It's not about making a profit on the back of an individual." The Slough boss gave Sharif his debut and is delighted that it shows what the club's youth system can produce.
"If he went to QPR I know that myself and the club would take a great deal of heart from it," said Bateman.
"He's been at the club in the youth section for three years and he's been well trained, I gave him his first opportunity at first team level and Mo did himself a lot of good last year.
"I don't think age is a barrier, if you are good enough you should be given a chance.
"If he ends up coming back to us, brilliant.
"If not I would be more pleased if he ends up getting a contract at a professional club.
"Everyone as a youngster who plays football holds dreams of doing that.
"The club are delighted with the recognition and that they are able to produce top youth talent."
