SLOUGH Borough Council has this week confirmed the new Community Sports Facility at Arbour Park will be available to Slough Town for use from Tuesday, August 16.
The bulletin has raised hopes that The Rebels can fulfill their first home game of the new campaign at Arbour Park though talks with The Southern League may be required once the fixtures have been released.
The new season gets under way on August 6 and, should the club be unable to use the brand new facility in Stoke Road, Slough, a contingency plan with Beaconsfield SYCOB for the use of Holloways Park has been agreed.
An update on Arbour Park from the council read: “We have created a superstructure with a water-tight roof and completed a lot of site development including the installation of sewer connection and attenuation tank.
“Some of the work that remains includes internal works such as partitions and linings, ceilings, floors, and mechanical and engineering works.
“The external works include drainage, car park, perimeter fencing, the main pitch, stands and lighting.”
Roger Parkin, strategic director customer and community services, for the council said: “We are pleased the work to build the new community sports facility is progressing so well and phase one is on target to finish in August.
“With the roof now water-tight, internal works should soon begin and this is when we will start to see the facility come to life.
“On completion, the new facility will serve an area of the borough that has high inactivity levels and will offer a programme of activity attracting local people of all ages to become more active, more often.
"This is a key outcome in the council's five year £35million leisure strategy, which also includes developing a new leisure centre and refurbishments to the ice rink."
A statement from Slough Town read: “With the season starting on August 6 we have obviously had to make the necessary arrangements to play any early home games elsewhere, and this has been agreed with Beaconsfield.
“We are looking forward to the new season and finally bringing Slough Town home.”
