NO ACTION will be taken against a councillor seen using an unofficial blue badge to park in a disabled bay at a council meeting.
Wexham Lea borough and Wexham Court Parish Labour councillor Sandra Malik was seen by an Observer reporter displaying a badge which the council confirmed was 'not an official blue badge’.
Cllr Malik, when approached by The Observer, later produced what looked like a genuine blue badge and said she had displayed the other laminated badge because she was in a rush. An investigation into the incident by the council found Cllr Malik had 'no case to answer’. Investigator Matthew Chugg said Chalvey Community Centre, where Cllr Malik parked, is not an 'enforced’ car park and the designated disabled bay is a courtesy to disabled drivers.
He said ownership of blue badges entitles the holder to 'on street parking’, which the community centre bay is not classed as, so no badge is required and the unofficial badge used by Cllr Malik does not amount to misuse as they are often provided by car dealers.
