MOTORISTS can get a free catalytic converter safety check-up.

It is part of a police event to be held at Kwik Fit, in Bath Road, Slough, on Friday (30).

Drivers can get the converters checked and marked, plus number plates can be secured with tamper-resistant kits for free. Neighbourhood police will also be on hand to give out crime prevention tips.

Detective Sergeant Steve Madoc-Jones, from Local CID at Slough, said: “Although theft from vehicles in Slough is down 14.1% this year, it is still an ongoing challenge for the Local CID Department and Neighbourhood teams.

“This free event will hopefully provide local residents with an opportunity to help prevent themselves from becoming a victim of vehicle crime. Catalytic converters are regularly stolen in Slough by criminals particularly from Mercedes Sprinter Vans, Seat Alhambra and Volkswagen Sharans and I would particularly encourage owners of these types of vehicles locally to make use of this free service.” Places need to be booked in advance.
