A MAJOR fire at a recycling center was attended by firefighters this morning.
The two shipping containers caught fire at a recycling unit at Court Lane Industrial Estate, Iver. The blaze was tackled by a team of over 35 firefighters and officers.
The shipping containers were filled with plastics, rubble, metals, engine parts and some pressurised containers.
Station Commander Stuart Buckland of Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service was commanding the response to incident. He said:
"Once water supplies were established from a hydrant and a nearby canal we were able to extinguish the fire fairly rapidly."
Firefighters also commandeered a crane to empty the blazing containers.
"We also utilised a large grab attached to the recycling plant’s crane and managed to empty the containers, making firefighting operations a lot easier."
Crews put out the fire in under an hour, and were at the scene for about 90 minutes.
Fire engines from Slough, Langley, Hillingdon, Gerrards Cross and Ascot attended the incident. They were accompanied by an incident command unit from Maidenhead and a water tanker from Bracknell.
Nobody was hurt in the incident.
Mr Buckland said: "The only environmental issue was the smoke, which was blown over a lake where it dispersed quickly."
