SLOUGH Jets ice hockey team has had to cancel its latest home fixture on Saturday as the town’s temporary ice rink remains closed.
The home fixture against Cardiff tomorrow has been postponed and head coach Tony Milton said he understood the temporary rink, in Montem Lane, would not be ready until Monday at least.
He said: “The game is off. The compressors that keep the water cold broke during the week and caused a 48 hour delay.
“It’s very sad and very frustrating.”
The rink provider, SilverBlades Slough, a subsidiary of The Ice Rink Company, has been quiet about the opening date since a social media gaffe on Friday, February 3 when they prematurely announced the rink would open last Friday. This did not happen and the company did not respond to requests this week from the Observer for comment. HERE is confusion surrounding when Slough’s long-awaited temporary ice rink will finally open.
The provider SilverBlades Slough - a subsidiary of The Ice Rink Company - has been coy about the opening date since a social media gaffe on Friday, February 3, when they prematurely announced the rink would open on Friday, February 10.
After discussions with the management, Slough’s ice skating teams SPICE and Synchro are hopeful that the rink will open on Saturday morning.
Jo Hodgson, chairman of Special People on Ice (SPICE), the special needs ice skating team, said: “It will most likely open on Saturday morning, so we should have our first session on Sunday.
“We’re all raring to go.”
However, Slough Jets ice hockey team believe the rink will not be ready until Monday and have been forced to cancel their home fixture against Cardiff on Saturday.
Head coach Tony Milton said: SilverBlades Slough could not be reached for comment.
But the controversial temporary construction saw its opening date pushed back to December 17 and back again to February following a series of delays and a contract dispute with the provider, The Ice Rink Company.
