A YOUNG girl from South Bucks has been awarded for being the youngest person to travel from the southernmost to the northernmost tips of Britain last year.
Sophie George, three, of Iver, journeyed from Land’s End, Cornwall, to John O’Groats, in Caithness, Scotland, in August last year, accompanied by her parents Louise and Michael and her five-year-old sister Jessica.
They reached their destination on the north Scottish coast via two buses and four trains over two days, 17 hours and 54 minutes.
At the time Sophie was aged two years and ten months, making her the youngest person to complete the route in 2016.
The family raised £310 for Little Hearts Matter, a charity which helps children like Sophie’s elder sister Jessica, who were born with only half their hearts fully functioning.
Sophie was presented with the Jack Adams/Richard Elloway trophy for the youngest person to complete the journey by any means other than as a passenger in a motor vehicle.
The youngster received the trophy on January 29 at the Land’s End to John O’Groats Association awards in Torquay.
Having completed the voyage, Sophie and her family are now eligible to join The Land’s End to John O’Groats Association for anyone who has completed the journey in either direction, by whatever means of transport.
